A brainy quirk of human vision
The illusion highlights a quirk in human vision, specifically how color-detecting cells work in the center of the eye: When you focus on a specific dot, the background makes it appear purple, while the dots in your peripheral vision may look bluer. is effect is called simultaneous contrast, where your brain adjusts the color of an object based on the surrounding colors.
